Im gonna give a little bit of history as to why we decided to start the cookbook. My mother passed away suddenly 4 years ago (March 26, 2006), since the anniversary of her death was coming up we were all remembering all the dishes that she used to make and that we all miss. Then someone suggested we create a cookbook with all her dishes. I originally wanted to have it ready by March 26, 2010 but really never got it started. The last time I mentioned it on Facebook my brother told me the hard truth, "sister you are the only one that has the recipes." So now I have taken on the task of creating the cookbook to share with family and friends.
I officially started this weekend and quickly realized that this will definately be a big task. You see my mother cooked with no recipes, she just cooked from the heart and it came out great. I learned to cook by watching her so I cook just about the same way she did. Now I have the big task of making those dishes and trying to create a recipe that everyone can follow. I know there will be a lot of testing because it just may not come out right the first time, but I am willing to put in the leg work.
I'm thinking that the Cookbook should have about 25-30 recipes, those that are most memorable to all. What I would like is for everyone that is interested in the cookbook and has tasted my mom's cooking email me a list of the dishes they remember the most. Once I have a list I plan on sharing it with everyone so that we can narrow it down for the cookbook.
My idea is that I create the recipe, test it, and then send it to my brother (Bebo) so that he can test it, just to make sure it's accurate and easy to follow.
This weekend I knocked out my first recipe. I decided that it be fitting that I start with the one thing that everyone remembers, Tortillas de Harina! The recipe is basicly ready I just need to fine tune it then send it for testing. I will keep all of you posted at least once a week as to how the recipes are coming along.
I think that a good name for the cookbook is "Tia Lulu's Best Dishes" Let me know what you think.
Now everyone email me your lists so that we can decide which dishes will make it to the cookbook.
P.S. Once I have fine tuned a recipe I plan on sharing pictures!
